Court Ordered Family Therapy: Roles, Agreements, Privilege, and DORA
Presenter: Jane Irvine, MA, LPC, NCC
High conflict families often find themselves involved in both family therapy and litigation. The intersection of those worlds can pose challenges for therapists, who may find that the mandates or needs of the court are at odds with their role in therapy. Judges and attorneys also struggle with finding ways to get the information necessary to determine what is in the best interests of children without undermining the therapeutic process or turning therapy into an extension of litigation. This lunchtime webinar will address the goal or point of family therapy, the role of the therapist in family therapy, and the role of attorneys when family therapy has been court ordered. It will also address concerns regarding privilege, subpoenas, language that should be included in court orders, and DORA involvement.
